A commission rooted in classical and neoclassical design, where elegance and sophistication meet.

A commission rooted in classical and neoclassical design, where elegance and sophistication meet.

Introduction

This project was realised for a high-profile client based in Hong Kong. The residence is conceived around strong neoclassical principles, and our work was instrumental in expressing the elegance, proportions and timeless sophistication the client required.

The interior design studio approached every element with meticulous attention to detail, from the white Carrara marble to finely crafted mouldings and balustrades. Drawing on our experience, we were able to engage in a genuine dialogue with the monumentality of the space and its classical architectural language.

Design

The motif of our artwork draws inspiration from the acanthus leaf, a classical Corinthian element revived extensively during the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

To create a sense of continuity and fluid movement, and to offer a contemporary reworking of classical references, the forms evolve gradually from more defined, sculptural elements into lighter volumetric expressions. This progression is carefully designed to visually soften the overall composition and to respect key sightlines.

Although set against a highly imposing stair, the balustrade is conceived as a finely detailed, understated counterpart, highlighting elegance and harmony across forms and perspectives.

Our work remains coherent and refined—never imposing or overpowering, yet always quietly and remarkably impressive. It’s Italian, it’s Scapini.

Detail 1

The marble stair base forms the primary point of reference for the design and actively shapes the architectural character of the space. Our railing develops through elongated acanthus leaves and a series of scrolls that wind around the columns, guiding the eye upward with a fluid sense of movement. The composition culminates in a solid brass handrail, conveying elegance, an antique sensibility, and a timeless precision and beauty. The finished piece is a synthesis of strength, classical language and enduring elegance.

Detail 2

Our design provides structural support that is fully integrated into the decorative composition of the staircase as a whole. Each element is carefully conceived to ensure continuity and harmony, while meeting all relevant code requirements.

In the image below, the support is expressed as a hand-engraved cover, designed to house and conceal the load-bearing structure within. The spheres, which might appear purely decorative, in fact conceal the fixing points that support and stabilise the balustrade. We approach every project with extreme sensitivity to detail and deliver best-in-class standards, where nothing is left unnoticed.

Finishes

To enhance the authenticity and artisanal character of the piece, the hand-forged wrought iron is treated with beeswax, a process that preserves the texture, colour and material depth of the metal.

This is complemented by a moulded brass handrail, carefully worked at its terminal sections to integrate seamlessly with the overall design of the staircase. The brass handrail is likewise finished with beeswax, allowing the material to age and evolve over time, gradually echoing the tones and wear of the house itself and creating a continuous dialogue between the work and its surroundings.

Conclusion

This project was delivered on time, securely and with complete professionalism. It represents a synthesis of technical complexity, forging mastery and aesthetic elegance.

Applied to a neoclassical helical staircase, the work demanded absolute control over geometries, a sensitive reading of the space and a deep knowledge of traditional techniques, combined with the ability to engage confidently with high-end architectural design. For clients seeking truly bespoke design and craftsmanship, we deliver unique pieces that blend passion and tradition with best-in-class forging processes and a rigorous work ethos, meeting even the most demanding expectations.
