Introduction
This project was conceived with the aim of creating a highly refined neoclassical residence, designed for a private client in the Far East, in Hong Kong. The entire intervention was developed to express elegance, proportion, and timeless sophistication.
The interior design studio worked with great attention to detail, designing a white Carrara marble staircase, enriched with finely crafted mouldings of remarkable quality. Architectural elements that required further enhancement and the presence of a balustrade of equal importance, capable of engaging in dialogue with the monumentality and classical language of the space.
Design
The design intentionally originates from the past, drawing inspiration from the acanthus leaf, a symbolic element of classical and neoclassical tradition. From this historical reference, the form gradually evolves into a lighter volumetric expression, designed to visually soften the overall composition.
The aim was to create a sense of continuity and ease of movement, naturally guiding the eye and the ascent along the staircase. Although set against a highly imposing stair, the balustrade was conceived as a refined accompanying element, elegant and coherent, never as an imposed or overpowering presence.

Detail 1
As befits any grand ceremonial staircase, the entrance is marked by a sumptuous starting point, gracefully wrapped around itself. The marble stair bases, enriched with refined decorative elements, form the origin of the design and engage in dialogue with the monumentality of the architecture.
From this point, the balustrade develops through a long acanthus leaf and a series of scrolls that wind around the column, guiding the upward movement. The composition culminates in a solid brass handrail, forged from a solid section and adorned with a leaf of refined beauty, conceived as the final synthesis of strength, classical language, and elegance.

Iteration 2
The uniqueness of this detail lies in the design of a structural support fully integrated into the decorative language. Each element was carefully conceived to ensure formal continuity with the moulding of the balustrade, avoiding any visible or intrusive technical solutions.
The support consists of a hand-engraved cover, designed to house and conceal the load-bearing structure within. The spheres, which at first glance appear purely decorative or seemingly attached, in fact perform a structural function, concealing the fixing points that support and stabilize the balustrade. A detail where craftsmanship and engineering merge seamlessly.
Finishes
The finish was carefully designed to enhance the authentic material character of the metals. The natural iron, hand-forged, was treated using traditional beeswax, a process that preserves its living surface and emphasizes its material depth.
This is complemented by a moulded brass handrail, also forged through its initial and terminal sections, allowing it to integrate seamlessly with the overall design of the balustrade. The brass was likewise finished with beeswax, enabling the material to age and evolve over time, absorbing the tones of the interior and the life of the house itself, creating a continuous dialogue between the work and its surroundings.
Conclusion
This project represents a synthesis of artisanal excellence, technical complexity, and aesthetic sensitivity, applied to a classical-style helical staircase of significant importance. A work that demands absolute control of form, deep knowledge of traditional techniques, and the ability to engage with high-level architecture.
